Trooping the Color 2017 Was a Glorious, Colorful Celebration

Hooray— the annual Trooping the Color is here! The special event gives avid royal watchers the chance to see the modern monarchy in their element —big hats, bright colors, royal waves, and all.

The exciting British celebration—known mostly for its pomp, circumstance, and stunning royal fashion—marks the formal celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday. (True royal fans know, however, that the Queen actually has two birthdays, and her other one—her actual date of birth—is April 21). Citizens line the streets to cheer on the lavish parade, which features appearances by all of the favorite royals, led by the 91-year-old monarch and her husband, Prince Philip.

Of course also on hand, decked out in all their regal splendor? Duchess Kate Middleton, who was dressed in head-to-toe elegance; is it us, or does it seem like Kate’s Trooping style just keeps getting better? Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Charles and more were also all there to honor the Queen on this special day. But our favorite part—naturally—was seeing cute little George and Charlotte making their appearance for the famous annual balcony shot. We’re thinking that this year’s photos may have surpassed last year’s in terms of total cuteness and good cheer. See if you agree!
