Officer Wayne Tidwell was on duty in the Nashville, TN, area when he spotted a car with two children in the back–and they weren’t in their car seats. So he turned on his sirens and immediately pulled over the driver.

When he approached the car, he asked the woman behind the wheel why the two boys weren’t properly secured. The woman said the children were her foster sons whom she had just picked up the night before. They came only with the clothes they were wearing, “no car seat, no toys, no coats, and so on,” the foster mom wrote in a post she left on the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Facebook page.

He asked for her phone number, and later she got a call from the officer’s wife asking about her boys. The mom and Officer Tidwell arranged to meet again in Waverly, TN, where he had an even bigger surprise waiting. In the back of his car were gifts for the children, including the foster children’s older brother. Even though Officer Tidwell showered the children with gifts, authorities do not condone driving without proper car seats for children.

“I can not thank him enough for the kindness he has shown these three boys. I never asked him for anything. He and his wife acted out of the kindness of their hearts. He showed these boys that there are very nice cops out there and I hope he has left a lasting impression on them that cops are good,” she wrote.

The post has since racked up thousands of shares, with many people expressing admiration for Officer Tidwell and his wife’s good deeds.
