Family Goes Toy-Shopping and Stumbles Upon Something So Unexpected

When 11-year-old Rory Folkins from Alberta, Canada was in search of a little entertainment, she would never have imagined gaining a new toy with so much meaning.

But that’s what happened when she and her father took a trip to Walmart last Sunday and found a charitable tribute to a grandmother who had passed away.

With her last bit of Christmas money in hand, Rory excitedly scoured the aisles for a new toy–only to find a peculiar envelope taped to one of the shelves. “Please take me” it read in big, bold black letters.

Curious, the father and daughter duo opened the envelope, which contained a card with a woman’s photo on it, a special handwritten note, and $40.

“Today is the day we lost our nan two years ago,” the note said. “We want to do a few good deeds in her memory. Our nan was a very special person, always willing to help out in any way. My nan’s favorite people in her life were the little people in her life. She had six grandkids, two sons, tons of nieces/nephews. She also fostered many kids through the years. Take this money and spoil your favorite little people today!”

Rory’s father was sure to heed the stranger’s advice! After buying Rory a brand new toy, the two headed to A&W for some root beer floats with the remaining money.

Warmed by this random act of kindness, Folkins shared: “My daughter, she’s 11 years old, and any little girl likes to spend money if they can. She was super excited and…I was kind of shocked. You don’t see this happen very often. I’ve never seen it happen myself.”

Of course, Rory was absolutely tickled pink as well.

“You hear about people buying coffee at Tim Hortons for people behind them,” Folkins said, “but something like this is quite different. She was absolutely thrilled that she got to be a part of something so special.”

Folkins took to Facebook to share the exciting story, in hopes of connecting with the family of the deceased woman. Although they have not been in contact yet, Folkins was excited to learn that he wasn’t the only recipient of the family’s benevolence. Apparently, two other notes had been left in other locations in Alberta, including Tim Hortons and Boston Pizza.

“I just really want to let this family know that this has been found and what they asked has actually happened,” Folkins said. “It’s such a special way to remember somebody who obviously meant so much to them. I think everybody’s lost somebody in their life, but this is a pretty unique and special way to remember them.”
