But this past weekend the nurses, doctors, and staff were the receiving end of a kind gesture. There on one of the vending machines in the hospital’s hallway was a note. Instead of saying something rude like “This machine is broken. Save your money!” or “I lost money. Please send it back c/o….”, the staff were delighted to find something else going on.

The note said: “Please find a variety of snacks in the bottom of this machine that have been paid for. I simply wanted to perform some random act of kindness to try and brighten up someone’s day. If you can, try and spread the kindness.” And sure enough, there were chocolates and other free treats for people to spread cheer.

One nurse said the treats made her so happy she was beaming all day. Another said it was lovely that someone had done this without waiting to be thanked. We agree. Whoever left the note and treats deserves a nice gesture, too.
