Woman Shares Stunning Engagement Ring Photo, Then Explains the Problem With It

Tags:

First, her engagement ring photo caught their eyes. But then, her caption caught their attention.

MacKenzie Adams posted a picture of a beautiful (and huge!) engagement ring on the finger of a perfectly manicured, tanned hand on Facebook for her friends to see. And below it was a truly bold explanation of what was wrong with this picture.

“Both women and men amaze me nowadays,” she wrote in the caption. “Taking pictures of their engagement rings, videos to show how shiny they are. Manicures to show off how much money was spent and a piece of jewelry on their hand. Marriage isn’t about how much money your other half can throw into a ring.”

Just when Adams’s followers were probably starting to realize that this was not one of the typical cutesy “congratulations-worthy” photo they were used to seeing on social media, she explained what was not considered typical back in the day.

“Look at your great-great-grandparents and tell me if they had a several thousand dollar ring on their hand? No,” she wrote. “But they had 50 years under their belt. That is something most people can’t dream of anymore.”

And Adams then went in for the kill, citing photos like the one she just posted as part of the problem why people don’t have these goals in mind for marriage anymore.

She wrote, “That is because everyone is so worried about the perception of others. How good can you look as a couple on Instagram, how many likes can you get on your 6 month mark picture with your ‘better half.’ Why don’t you focus more on less Snapchats, less goofy posts on Facebook, and focus on your relationship?”

Strong words! We’re not surprised that the post has already been shared 23,000 times.

But the strongest note of all was the one Adams ended on: “Work through your problems and listen to each other. Five-50 years is better than $5-$50,000 spent on a ring.”
