Girl With Alopecia Areata Celebrates Crazy Hair Day

Tags:

Gianessa Wride may be bald, but she didn’t let that stop her from rocking the coolest ‘do of all her classmates on “Crazy Hair Day.”

The 7-year-old cutie, who suffers from alopecia areata–an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss–showed up to school with a beautiful bejeweled scalp! Helping her daughter embrace her condition, Wride’s mother used rhinestone stickers to make glittering flower and owl designs on Wride’s head. And the result is stunning.

“We pulled up to the drop-off point, and she started to get out of the car, and you could just hear the kids and the teacher saying, ‘That’s so cool, that’s awesome!’” Wride’s mother, Daniella, told KSL.com.

It comes as a joyful moment for the family, who has struggled to come to terms with their daughter’s trying condition.

“She is still her beautiful, sassy, smart, loving, kind self,” Daniella wrote on her Instagram account. “And I’m excited to embrace this and have fun trying new things with her.”

Gianessa’s alopecia first appeared in early January after she got the stomach flu. She quickly began losing so much hair that, by the end of the month, she decided to shave her head entirely.

“The doc said that her body wanted so badly to fight that virus that it got a little [too] excited and created antibodies again her hair as well,” Daniella wrote.

Due to the rare state of her condition, Gianessa’s hair is likely never to grow back. Although it’s been hard for the young girl to embrace this fact, her family has done everything to support their daughter throughout her journey. Gianessa’s father even shaved his own head in solidarity.

Just days after Giannessa went completely hairless, Daniella shared a photo of Graniessa to her Instagram with the caption “freaking warrior.”

We couldn’t agree with this statement more.
