She Knew She Was Going to Have a Big Baby, But She Could Never Have Predicted Just How Gigantic Her Newborn Boy Would Be

Now that’s one big baby!

Australian mom Natashia Corrigan was expecting a hefty baby, but she got more than she bargained for when she gave birth to her son, Bruce Jr.; and she did it all without an epidural!

Born Brian Liddell Jr., her not-so-little bundle of joy is Corrigan’s third child. Her two previous deliveries had been induced, so she figured she would deliver her baby boy without pain medication. Like her other pregnancies, Corrigan expected her baby would be big, but no more than 11 pounds. Boy, was she in for a surprise!

After seven hours of labor, Brian Jr. popped out, weighing in at 13 pounds and 4 ounces and making him the heaviest baby delivered at Mercy Hospital for Women in Victoria, Australia.

“It’s hard to get our minds around such a whirlwind of a day. I never dreamed we’d get so much love for our BIG baby boy and family,” she wrote on Facebook.

Even though Brian Jr. made it into Australia’s record books, he fell short of seeing his name in the Guinness Book of World Records. Currently, the record of “world’s heaviest baby” belongs to Anna Bates, who gave birth to a 22-pound baby in 1879. Bates was 8 feet tall herself, so it’s perhaps not so surprising that she would deliver a world-record baby. Sadly, the boy died at their Seville, Ohio, home just 11 hours after his birth.

But let’s not forget that Corrigan delivered Brian Jr. without an epidural.

“I think I was in a bit of shock because the birth was natural and I only had gas so I was still in a bit of shock just from that,” Corrigan said. She had to remind herslf to maintain a positive mindset through the pain. “The power of positive thinking during birth, be positive, breathe deep.”

Congrats to the entire family! A baby is such a gift.
