Glam Up Your Donuts With a Splash of Edible Glitter

Tags:

June 1 marks National Donut Day, and what better way to celebrate than by making your very own glitter donuts?

If one thing’s for sure, it’s that children love using glitter in their craft projects. (We’re not going to lie, we do too!) And once we found there’s glitter you can eat, we realized we had to combine that with our kids’ love of sweet treats. That’s why we’re so excited to share this sparkly DIY Edible Glitter Donut Glaze recipe with you.

Believe it or not, edible glitter isn’t that hard to find — your local baking supply store should have plenty. You can even find it online, and for cheap too. While you can get it in any color, we’re in love with this Fine Edible Pink Glitter Dust by CK ($6, Amazon). Ultimately, the look and style of your DIY glitter donuts will be up to you and your kids!

Please note: It’s extremely important to ensure that your glitter is food grade edible glitter. Consuming in-edible glitter is toxic.

Ingredients

  • Donuts (Any size or flavor will work!)
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. milk
  • Edible glitter

Instructions

1. Melt the butter and combine all of the ingredients in a bowl, then stir.

2. Dip your donuts in the glaze or brush donuts lightly with a pastry brush.

3. Then go to town with the glitter!

Sure, any bakery could whip up a batch of glitterized donuts — for a price. So why not cut the bill in half and make this sparkly treat yourself? Plus, we’re sure the kids will have a blast.
