Heaven Looks Like 361 Golden Retrievers Having a ‘Pawty’ at a Scottish Castle

Tags:

Earlier this month, hundreds of good boys and girls gathered in Scotland for the world’s fluffiest celebration. Pet owners from all over the world came together to honor the 150th birthday of the golden retriever breed at Guisachan Estate in Tomich, Scotland, where the first litter of golden pups was born.

“The 150th has been a roaring success,” Doreen McGuan, the club’s chairman, told the British outlet Metro. “We’ve gone up from 188 golden retrievers 10 years ago at the 2006 gathering to 222 in 2016 and now, today we got 361. It’s appropriate we’ve beaten our record on the big anniversary.”

A good time was had by all, according to McGuan. “It was a lot of pet owners who came just to join the fun,” McGuan said. “People didn’t realize that it all went back to this and that there is a place to go to commemorate (their golden retrievers).”

Pet owners who couldn’t bring their dogs brought life-sized cardboard cutouts instead, Emily Dodson, a Guisachan Gathering attendee, told WomansWorld.com. Dodson, from Adelaide, Australia, recounted one particularly memorable occurrence from the day: A golden retriever named Blossom was booped in the head by a flying haggis. We hope poor Blossom got a lot of pats and treats afterward!

Golden retrievers are the third most popular dog breed here in the United States, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). Given that goldens are known for being smart, friendly dogs, it’s not surprising they’re loved by so many — including us.

While we’re sad we didn’t get to attend this year’s festivities at Guisachan Estate, these “pawsitively” adorable photos are good enough for us. Who else can’t wait for next year’s gathering?
