April the Giraffe Is Pregnant Again — Here’s How to Watch Her Belly Grow on Live Video

Tags:

Remember April the giraffe? The long-necked beauty captured the nation’s attention last year when she gave birth to a baby boy named Tajiri. If you were one of the thousands who tuned in to the livestream to watch her delivery, this update on April the giraffe will make your day: The mother of four is expecting again. We have some time to wait before baby No. 5 makes his or her arrival, but here’s what we know so far.

Is April the giraffe really pregnant?

Jordan Patch, the owner of Animal Adventure Park where April lives, revealed the news on the TODAY show on July 25. When host Savannah Guthrie asked who the father was, Patch jokingly replied, “What show is this?” before confirming that “Of course, it is Oliver the giraffe, the same father as Tajiri.”

How long is a giraffe pregnant?

We’re not yet sure if April is having a boy or girl, but one thing we do know is that if all goes according to plan, we’ll get to meet the baby sometime next year. “The average (gestation period) for a giraffe is 15 months,” Patch explained. That said, “April likes to go 16, 17, 18 … 19 months.”

When is April the giraffe due?

How long has April the giraffe been pregnant? We’d like to know, too! Depending on how far along she is, we’d estimate that we’ll see April give birth sometime in spring of 2019. For weeks the Animal Adventure Park teased the pregnancy news. In late June of this year, the park shared a video on their Facebook page where they announced they were testing April’s stools to determine whether she was expecting. The samples had to be shipped off to another facility for testing, and it looks like the results came back positive for a pregnancy!

Where can I watch the April the giraffe livestream?

April won’t give birth until next year, but until then, you can tune into April’s livestream to see her daily activities. She’s currently in an enclosure with her son Tajiri —or “Taj” for short —and her partner, Oliver.

Having trouble telling the three giraffes apart? Taj is the shortest one, and right now he’ll probably be hanging out with Mom. That means April is the giraffe by his side. Look for the giraffe with heart-shaped spots and that’s April. Dad “Ollie” enjoys carrots and April’s company (awww!), according to the park’s website.

Where is April the giraffe and how is she doing?

Back in 2017, April the giraffe made us wait seven weeks to witness her delivery. Her son Taj was eventually born on April 15, 2017. At the time, Taj, whose name means “hope” in Swahili, weighed in at about 130 pounds and stood tall at 5 feet 9 inches. Taj was six-year-old Oliver’s first child and April’s fourth.

Right now, April and her brood live at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York. At close to 10 feet tall, Taj has almost doubled in height, and he recently celebrated his first birthday! Like most kids, Taj still lives with Mom. And don’t worry, Dad Oliver is right next door. Eventually, Taj will be weaned and expected to go out on his own. Fortunately for him, Mom will never be far behind.

We’re waiting impatiently for the park to announce more details about April and baby. As more information comes out, we’ll be sure to keep you informed on all the latest April the giraffe updates.
