Elderly Woman Visits Late Husband at Cemetery When Man Steals Her Purse. Then His Son Found Out and Did the Most Unexpected Thing

She had just said goodbye to her husband of 60 years, but Tona Herndon would soon realize she wasn’t finished experiencing tragedy.

Two weeks after her spouse died, the 78 year old decided to visit him at his grave in Bethany, OK. Distracted by her grief, the upset widow didn’t notice someone approaching her from behind. A man quickly grabbed her purse and made off with $700 during her vulnerable moment. Luckily, police were able to catch the culprit, and they flashed his mugshot on the news.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Christian Lunsford was watching TV when all of a sudden he saw his dad’s face staring back at him on the screen. Since his parents’ divorce when he was two, the teen hadn’t seen much of his father, who’s been in out of jail for years. The last time he had been in contact with his old man, he had received $250 for a band trip. When Christian heard about his dad’s serious crime, he knew he had to find the victim.

“She needed an apology from somebody. If I didn’t apologize, who would?” said Christian.

Besides expressing remorse for his father’s actions, the youngster presented her with the money his dad had given him for his school trip. He wasn’t sure if the $250 had come from what was stolen from her, but Christian believed it was the right thing to do.

“I thought that was so precious. Any 15 year old who has that much conscience is extraordinary,” said Tona.

The older woman was happy to accept the money, but she was even happier to give it back to Christian, so that he could go on his trip.

After such a heartwarming act of kindness, the young man had a few wise words for kids who don’t want to grow up in their mom’s or dad’s footsteps.

“You’re not who you’re parents are, even if they do raise you; you can become whoever you want to be,” said Christian.
