It happened again. You were out with friends and someone made a joke that was a little too funny. Urinary incontinence is one of those things no one likes to talk about, but it’s a problem many of us deal with as we get older. Luckily, technology is developing some exciting new ways to help regain control of your bladder — no painful workouts necessary!
One such product that we’re pretty excited about is Innovo — a workout-free wearable pelvic floor training device. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is caused by weakened muscles around the pelvis which cause excess pressure on the bladder, leading to leaks. Innovo is a system that promises to retrain the muscles of the pelvic floor for a leak-free life in as little as three months! It might sound too good to be true, but we spoke to Shannon Beador from the Real Housewives of Orange County who’s been using Innovo, and according to her, it’s the real deal.
The best part about Innovo, says Beador, is that it’s really simple to use. “You put on a pair of shorts, and it delivers contractions to strengthen the pelvic floor,” she explains. “You use it for 30 minutes a day, five days a week, and after a three-month period, you should be leak-free. Your problem is gone.”
It’s not uncomfortable, either. With a hand-held control, you can determine the intensity level for the contractions before you start. The Innovo website claims: “With every gentle pulse, you’ll feel your pelvic floor muscles lifting and releasing — strengthening and rebuilding the muscles and helping you regain bladder control one session at a time.” Impressive, right?
Even more shocking is that Innovo might work better than invasive procedures like surgery that are often used to combat SUI. “I haven’t personally tried anything invasive, but my friends have used invasive methods to try and cure the problem and they haven’t found success,” Beador explains. “I’m just so excited to use something that is easy — and it actually forces me to sit down for 30 minutes a day.” That’s right. You don’t have to do any actual movements with the Innovo wearable device. “You can wear the shorts standing up, you can be laying on the sofa, and even when I travel I can bring the product with me. It’s just so easy!”
Beador also told us that within a short time, you’ll start to see results in other ways as well. “I’ve been on a weight loss journey, and something that I’ve noticed is that there are certain exercises I haven’t been able to do because of the problem,” she says. “Now I’m able to expand my exercise routine. For example, I couldn’t run at all before. Now I can, so there’s a definite improvement.”
So for those of us looking to try out some new fitness classes and routines this year, Innovo could help alleviate some of the anxiety that comes along with this frustrating issue. If that shame and nervousness is something you’re familiar with, Beador promises that life after Innovo can be better. “I have so many horror stories,” she says. “It was college football season and I was out with my family and I stood up and said ‘touchdown!’ and there was an issue. To not have to worry about that anymore is great.”
So if incontinence is something you’re struggling with, know that you’re not alone and that it’s OK to elicit help. Many women just like Beador have struggled with and overcome this issue, and you can too. To determine if Innovo is right for you, visit the website where you can schedule a consultation with a healthcare specialist through Innovo RX. As always, talk to your doctor before starting with any new fitness product.
We’re wishing you a happy, healthy, and leak-free 2020 to come!
