The Way This Family Honors Twins’ Memory Will Give You Goosebumps

This is one beautiful family photo that left us truly breathless.

Katy Patten is a mom of two daughters, Ava and Giuliana–but she really has four kids. She and her husband, Justin, are also parents to two twin boys, Aiden and Gavin, whom they sadly lost in 2011 after complications following pre-term labor at only 23 weeks. Though Katy and Justin will always consider themselves parents of four, they wanted to make sure their two young daughters also strongly felt the presence of their brothers watching over them.

So they decided, with the help of photographer Linda Gittins, owner of Lulu B. Photography in Wisconsin, to create a family portrait that did just that. To honor their sons, they included all six members of the Patten clan, using shadow images of twin boys holding hands with the parents. Check it out:

Such a special photo for this beautiful family. They lost their twin boys 4 years ago. “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.” – Robert Munsch

“I want them to know that there were other people in our family
, and that they’re important to us,” Patten told Yahoo news about her decision.

We adore that sentiment–as well as the stunning photo that resulted from this courageous, heartfelt idea.

Katy told me today that they don't have many professional photos of their whole family together….I think it's safe to say that today they were included in a ton of photos! 🙂
