Hero Firefighters Rescue a Box of Tiny Kittens From California Wildfires

We were so sad to hear about the devastating wildfires in Southern California, which have caused at least one death and the destruction of more than 1,000 buildings. The fires have burned 260 square miles — larger than the city of Chicago — and firefighters are still struggling to control them. But like every tragedy, there is a bright spot that has emerged amidst all the destruction and chaos.

According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, a box full of kittens has been rescued by patrolling deputies. While the responders were inspecting burned areas of the city of Bonsall, they happened upon the box. After ensuring the little kitties’ safety, they immediately turned the precious little felines over to animal services. The cats were first brought to a central command station and then were transferred to an animal shelter. Now, the kittens have already been placed with a foster parent, who we’re sure is taking great care of them.

This fire, now known as the Lilac Fire, first began last Thursday off of San Diego’s Interstate 15. The cause of the fire is unknown, but officials are currently investigating. It seems like the area will need be on high alert for the time being, due to the nature of the flames and also the high winds that spread them.

“When a tornado hits the Midwest, there’s no stopping it. When a hurricane hits the East Coast, there’s no stopping it. When the Santa Ana winds come in, there’s no stopping them,” said Kendal Bortisser, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection in San Diego.

Sounds scary! These cats are so lucky to be safe and sound and in good hands. It’s a good thing the responders acted so quickly after finding them.

Meanwhile, we’re keeping everyone affected by the wildfires in our thoughts. We hope that these fires end soon!
