Watching This Puppy Get Rescued From a Well Is Everything

Tags:

On Friday, the Smith County Rescue Squad in Defeated, Tennessee, dove into a 30-foot well to rescue a puppy that had somehow gotten stuck inside. Thankfully, one member of the Smith County Rescue Squad was able to propel down and retrieve the puppy safely and quickly.

Still no word on the puppy’s name, but just look at how sweet the poor scared animal is — and his utter relief at being safe and sound. These rescuers are true heroes!

Rescuing Kuyu

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a puppy finding itself in a dangerous situation. In February, a four-month old puppy in Istanbul, Turkey, caught the nation’s attention in a terrifying 10-day rescue. The tragic incident sparked an international following, as social media users began using the hashtag #direnkuyu — meaning “resist well” — on Twitter.

More than 15 rescue workers took shifts monitoring the puppy via a camera that was lowered into the 230-foot well. The crew lowered food and water to keep the puppy alive while they worked together to figure out a way to get Kuyu out of the well.

Throughout the rescue, Mayor of Beykoz, Yücel Çelikbilek said teams were doing their best.

“Rescue teams are trying new methods to rescue the dog,” Çelikbilek said in a statement. “They are expending a lot of effort to save it. But the dog has not responded to their efforts and it has not been lured by any traps. If it doesn’t get into a [bucket] we won’t be able to get it out of the well. This is our only chance.”

After the rescue team exhausted its resources, tech-savvy group of students from Bahçeşehir Science and Technology High School stepped in to help by developing a robotic arm that successfully rescued the puppy after a three-hour struggle.

Once the puppy was checked out at a veterinary clinic, Kuyu was adopted by the firefighters of Beykoz.

Both of these puppies must have been terrified! We’re so happy they’re safe and in a loving home.
