These Anne Geddes Photos Capture the Beauty of Meningitis Survivors

Tags:

When you think of Anne Geddes photos, you probably recall the adorable snapshots of babies that the talented photographer took back in the 1990s. While those pictures are undeniably beautiful, there’s some other Anne Geddes photos that everyone should be aware of.

Anne Geddes recently released a collection of photographs she took of meningitis survivors on her Facebook page. In honor of Meningitis Day on April 24, she took time out of her busy day to send a powerful message to parents everywhere about meningitis, or the inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord.

“For the past 5 years I’ve been involved in raising awareness of meningitis and today would like to send much love to all of the survivors I’ve had the privilege of photographing, along with their wonderful families,” she wrote in the post. “My heart also goes out to those families who have lost loved ones to this terrible disease.”

She also encouraged parents to trust their instincts about their children, and to seek medical help immediately if they sense that their children’s cold or flu-like symptoms are more serious than the cold or flu. As her beautiful photos showcase, people of many different ages and that live in many different places can be affected by meningitis. After all, it’s important to prevent it from happening to as many people as we possibly can.

But it’s equally important for us to show support and love to meningitis survivors. And Anne Geddes’ photos below do just that.
