Just because Aretha Franklin is set to retire doesn't mean she's settling down. The legendary soul singer has big plans for herself and her hometown of Detroit once she's done performing concerts, and we couldn't be more excited to hear about them.
Aretha announced her plans of retirement earlier this year, saying that 2017 would be the last year she performed a concert. Though she has lived at her home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan for a long time, she also announced that she is moving back to her hometown of Detroit — where she plans to open up a nightclub of her own, appropriately named Aretha's. How fancy!
As if that weren't exciting enough, Aretha also revealed that she'd like to sing at the club "from time to time" and host performers that Detroit residents love.
"I'm cleaning house," she said. "I'm going to be moving back into Detroit, and I'm just getting things ready for that. My granddaughter just went to college, so I'm spending time with my grandchildren, and I'm also readying the new CD."
That's right, folks, even though her concerts are coming to an end, the Queen of Soul still has a new album in the works. Looks like you can't take the woman out of the studio or the studio out of the woman.
We wish Aretha all the best in her upcoming retirement, and we also hope that ours will be just as marvelous!
