This babysitter story proves that one woman going above and beyond for a child can truly make a difference. And it all started with a mermaid tail. Yes, you read that correctly.
Little 3-year-old Alidy had been so sad since last November, when her father passed away. Her mom, Jenna Haslam, saw her daughter had taken to wearing costumes every day since her dad died. No one ever matched her outfits, and it made the grieving girl even sadder that no one else looked like her.
But when Alidy's 15-year-old babysitter, Keegan Carnahan, heard the full story, she realized it would be up to her to change that.
After all, Alidy kept telling Keegan that she looked like a mermaid because of her pink hair. So it gave Keegan the genius idea of helping the preschool cope with tragedy--through a costume.
"Surely enough, she had decided to wear her little mermaid outfit when I was watching her," Keegan said.
So Keegan saw the perfect opportunity to match the little girl--so she'd finally have someone in her life dressed like her.
During Alidy's bath time, Keegan stepped out to the little girl in the tub in a full mermaid getup. The little girl, who was still sporting her mermaid costume, could scarcely believe her eyes.

“It made her day to see a costume just like hers," Alidy's mom, Jenna, said. "She was ecstatic."
Funnily enough, Jenna says Alidy is also convinced that Keegan is an actual mermaid now. (Well, with the hair and the tail, she does make a beautiful one!) But more importantly, the dress-up helped the little girl in the midst of her grief.
Jenna said, "She finally found someone to connect with again."
Beautiful! Way to go, Keegan.
