Banquet Recalls Frozen Dinners After Salmonella Contamination

Yikes! Just days after Frito-Lay recalled two chip flavors after a salmonella scare, another major food company is issuing a recall to its consumers.

Conagra Brand, Inc, which is best known for their brands like Banquet, Marie Callender, Reddi-Wip, and Orville Redenbacher’s among others, just notified the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) about possible salmonella contamination. According to the press release, Conagra learned that their supplier might have sent them tainted ingredients that were later used in brownie mix dessert, which is found in Banquet’s Chicken Nuggets with Mac & Cheese meal.

This recall affects 110,817 pounds of frozen dinners. Yowza! TV dinners with the code 3100080921 and a best-if-used-by date of July 20, 2018, are the subject of the recall. An FSIS number of “09,” which can be found on the side of the box, is also another measure to look for.

What is salmonella?

Salmonella is a common form of food poisoning that can causes headaches, fever, chills, dehydration, fatigue, and diarrhea.

Often, salmonella contamination occurs when food comes in contact with infected animal feces. Contamination can also happen if someone does not wash his or her hands before handling food, especially after using the bathroom. Reptiles, small rodents, and chicks are most likely to pass on the disease, so be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after handling said animals.
