5 DIY Coffee Beauty Hacks to Try Today

Tags:

For many of us, coffee is a necessary part of our everyday routines. While you likely get your java fix in the form of an early morning cup or midday pick-me-up, there are other ways to benefit from a cup of joe, especially when it comes to skincare. When used as a beauty boosting brew, you’ll discover that coffee is packed with nutrients that turn back the clock in a flash. Keep reading for five of our favorite DIY beauty treatments.

Slim a double chin with a coffee mask

A natural diuretic, coffee helps nix the water retention that can make the jawline look puffy, says dermatologist Debra Jaliman, M.D. Pair it with hydrating olive oil and skin-firming egg whites, and the t chin will look instantly tauter and slimmer.

TRY IT! Combine 1⁄4 cup of coffee grounds, 1 Tbs. of olive oil and 1 egg white. Massage onto skin from jaw to collarbone; rinse off after 15 minutes.

Diminish cellulite with a coffee polish

Coffee’s caffeine dehydrates fat cells of their water content to shrink dimples. And scrubbing the brewed grounds onto skin increases circulation, plumping skin so cellulite looks less obvious overall.

TRY IT! Massage a handful of brewed coffee grounds onto damp skin, then rinse. Repeat three times a week to prolong results.

De-puff eyes with coffee cubes

“Tannins in coffee immediately expel trapped fluids that lead to under-eye swelling”, says Dr. Jaliman. Even better? When applied to eyes in the form of ice cubes, the cold constricts blood vessels to reduce bags and lighten dark circles for younger-looking eyes in no time.

TRY IT! Pour 1 cup of brewed coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze overnight. In the morning, pop out a cube and use it to gently rub around closed eyes. Let the liquid sit on skin for 10 minutes before rinsing.

Boost hair growth with a coco-java massage

When absorbed into the scalp, coffee increases circulation, bringing growth encouraging nutrients to follicles. Plus, it suppresses DHT, the hormone that causes hair loss. To speed results, mix with coconut water (its vitamin B strengthens strands to prevent shedding) and massage onto the scalp (the massage further ups circulation to pro- long hair’s growth phase).

TRY IT! Mix 1 cup of coffee and 1 cup of coconut water. Pour onto hair and massage onto the scalp using circular motions; rinse.

Soften rough heels with a coffee soak

Compounds in the grounds help encourage cell turnover to quickly reveal new, healthy skin cells, resulting in smoother soles. Bonus: Rubbing the leftover grounds onto heels post-soak helps slough away any remaining dead, dry skin.

TRY IT! Fill a basin with brewed coffee and add 1⁄2 cup of grounds. Soak for 15 minutes, then rub heels with the grounds for up to one minute; rinse.
