Jennifer Garner is still “going on 30,” if you ask us. She may technically be 49, but you’d never guess it by looking at her glowing skin. It turns out, the actress relies on a budget-friendly retinol oil we can all pick up at the drugstore!
“You’ve got to find a way to introduce your retinol products,” Garner told Prevention. “That’s tricky for women because it can make you peel, it can make you red.” Retinol works by amping up our cell turnover rate to improve elasticity, soften wrinkles and fine lines, and minimize pores. Depending on the concentration, however, it can cause irritation on sensitive skin.
Finding a retinol product that also provides plenty of moisture will help minimize that risk — which is why Garner reaches for Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Oil (Buy on Amazon, $20.43). She called it a “no-brainer” and that “it does what it needs to do without turning me red and making my skin angry.”
Lightweight retinol oils like this keep skin hydrated without over-saturating or clogging pores while working to increase the cell turnover. As one of Neutrogena’s celeb ambassadors for years now, it’s not too surprising to learn she’s a fan of their products. She mentioned their Lightweight Body Oil (Buy on Amazon, $14.59) and Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Broad Spectrum SPF 100+ (Buy on Amazon, $8.97) as two more go-to’s for nourishing and protecting her skin.
Garner also joked that finding her love of acting at a young age was surprisingly helpful. “I really lucked out because, in my teen years, when my friends were all in West Virginia lying out with baby oil all over their face and bodies, I was in the theater,” she explained. “They used to call me Casper. I was embarrassed and would think I’ve got to get a tan, but it saved years off my life, and certainly off of my face.”
Although we can’t hop in a time machine and join our high school drama clubs, trying out Garner’s favorite retinol oil might at least help us turn back the clock on our skin.
