Banish bacne with kiwi.
Kiwi’s antimicrobial properties kill acne-causing bacteria and unclog pores to clear up skin. Boost the benefits by mixing with anti-inflammatory honey to quickly nix any redness.
Try it: Combine two teaspoons of pureed kiwi and two teaspoons of honey. Apply to blemishes and let sit 15 minutes before rinsing.
Calm redness with watermelon.
Potent anti-inflammatory compounds in the melon reduce redness and irritation from heat rashes, sunburns and the like. “Plus, antioxidants and amino acids repair skin’s barrier and further ease irritation,” says aesthetician Eden Gilliam, founder of Eve Milan skin care.
Try it: Puree 1⁄2 cup of watermelon, then strain the juice and soak a washcloth in it. Apply to skin five minutes; rinse.
Fade age spots with strawberries.
Rich in vitamin C, strawberries lighten spots by encouraging cell turnover, sloughing off dead, discolored skin cells to reveal the brighter layers underneath. Adding yogurt (its lactic acid exfoliates) speeds the skin-brightening results — making it one of the most effective summer fruit spa treatments to try at home!
Try it: Combine 1⁄2 tablespoon of mashed strawberries and one tablespoon of plain yogurt. Dab onto spots and let sit for five minutes, then rinse.
Smooth wrinkles with cherries.
“The tart fruit’s high concentration of vitamin A increases collagen production to firm up skin and diminish fine lines and wrinkles,” says Gilliam. And combining with skin-hydrating and plumping aloe vera “fills in” creases to make wrinkles less noticeable stat.
Try it: Mix one tablespoon of mashed cherries and one tablespoon of aloe vera gel. Apply the mixture to wrinkly skin and let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse.
Diminish cellulite with peaches.
The caffeic acid found in juicy peaches helps draw out the excess fluids and trapped toxins that can make cellulite appear more prominent. Even better? Pairing it with exfoliating brown sugar and moisturizing coconut oil leaves skin looking smoother even faster.
Try it: Mix two tablespoons of brown sugar, one tablespoon of pureed peach, and one tablespoon of coconut oil. Rub onto areas with cellulite while showering. Wait five minutes; rinse.
