12 Ways to Get More Bang for Your Buck From Your Makeup

A little make-up can really go a long way in making us feel like our best self, but there are so many different ways it can be used that will save you tons of hassle — and money. Check out the list below for all the different ways you can put your makeup bag to work.

1. Use mascara as shoe polish.

Did you know your trusty mascara can act as shoe polish when you don’t have any on hand? Simply dab some onto a paper towel and apply to black leather shoes to hide scuffs and marks.

2. Use petroleum jelly to set perfume.

Dabbing on petroleum jelly to your pulse points before spritzing perfume will make it last longer. The ointment is air and watertight, so it will seal in fragrance better than applying to dry skin.

3. Use foundation as cream blush.

Put some of your favorite powder blush onto the back of your hand and mix with a little foundation. Apply the beautiful pale color to the apples of your cheeks.

4. Use argan oil for nails.

This miracle oil has been hailed a savior for hair, but it can also be used on your nails, too. Apply to any dry cuticles in need of some tender love and care.

5. Use matte eye shadow as eyebrow definer.

If you want to rock a power brow look but can’t afford yet another product, dig through your old eye shadows and find one that suits your eyebrow color. Make sure the powder is matte, not shimmery, and apply with an angled eye shadow brush for extra definition.

6. Use an old mascara wand as root touch up tool.

Once you’ve finished with a mascara, keep the brush and put it through the dishwasher. When it comes time to touch up your roots, apply your hair dye with the brush. It will distribute the dye evenly and be more precise than what comes with the kit.

6. Use blush as nail polish.

Simply scrape off a bit of your blush onto a clear surface then mix with a clear nail polish. You’ll have a lovely flattering tone that will compliment any outfit. Shimmery blushes will add a bit of sparkle to the polish, too.

7. Use eye shadow as highlighter.

Mix a tiny amount of a pearly eyeshadow with your facial powder and place on cheekbones, t-zone, and along the front of your nose.

8. Use highlighter as lip plumper.

Don’t shell out for expensive lip plumping products when you can create the illusion with highlighter. Apply your lipstick, then draw a small cross across the middle part of your lips and cupid’s bow with highlighter. Blend and blot for fuller looking lips.

9. Use concealer as eye shadow primer.

If you suffer from oily lids then eye shadows can slip away into creases easily. If you don’t want to buy yet another product, try dabbing your concealer onto your eyelids to act as a base to eye shadow.

10. Use eyeshadow as eye liner.

Dampen an angled eye shadow brush or cotton swab and use on eye shadow palette. The water will intensify the pigments to give a strong bold line.

11. Use primer as make up remover.

Perfect for those sneezes when you’re applying mascara. Dot your primer onto a cotton swab to clear away any mistakes without smudging.

12. Use lipstick as blush.

Apply lipstick, then blot with heel of your hand and gently press onto your cheeks for a healthy glow.
