If you've recovered from your Halloween-candy-induced food coma, then we've got big news for you. November 3 is known as National Sandwich Day, which means there are tons of free and cheap sandwiches available today, just waiting for you to devour them.
It seems pretty weird, right? — National Sandwich Day. But, there's actually some history behind this strange “holiday.” The sandwich became popular in the 18th century because John Montagu — the fourth Earl of Sandwich — had one request while he played cards with his companions — that he was served a little bit of beef between a couple slice of bread. Montagu's friends soon caught on and started asking for “the same as Sandwich.” And there you have it, the sandwich was born.
