Now that's a big baby!
California mom Jenna Reyes knew she was about to give birth to a big baby boy before he was born. She had even planned a C-section in preparation for Raymond's arrival. But she expected her big baby to be 10 or 11 pounds. Her not-so-little bundle of joy ended up weighing in at a whopping 13.5 pounds.
"Oh my gosh, he looks like a toddler, he was so big," Jenna said.
Raymond's unexpected size shocked several nurses at the Mercy Medical Center in the Central Valley.
"I worked in labor delivery for about seven years and the largest baby I've ever seen, so 13 pounds is a big baby, I've never seen one that big," said Jessica Newton, a nurse at the Family Birth Center.
In a worrying moment for Jenna, Raymond was taken by the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit after he was born. He then needed to be treated for jaundice and low calcium and sodium levels.
Thankfully, after a long week of treatment, Raymond was finally able to come home and is in good health. Now, Jenna's main concern is finding underwear and clothes suitable for him.
"Nothing fits him; uses size two Pampers--three to six months clothes," she said.
