Now that's a big baby!
Parents Cindy Richmond and Arthur Keisler had a hunch their third child would be born bigger than their first two children. But they never expected a 14.4 pound baby. And that's exactly who they got!
The South Carolina mom gave birth to the not-so-little bundle of joy at Lexington Medical Center, not realizing her newborn son was about to break a record. As it turned out, her big baby was the biggest one that clinicians can recall ever being born at the hospital since it opened in 1971.
Naturally, nurses in the delivery room were in awe at this baby's size. At 24 inches long, he was already the size of a typical five or six-month-old.
"I've been an obstetrics nurse for 29 years, but I've never seen a 14-pound baby," said Donna Hinton, a certified registered nurse at the hospital.
Of course, this didn't compare to the new parents' reaction when they laid eyes on their precious baby, who they decided to name Colin.
"When he was born, it was an 'Oh my God!' moment," Richmond said.
Dad couldn't agree more with Mom's shock.
"He's a toddler at 3 days old," Keisler said.
Despite the baby's massive size, he is reportedly happy and healthy—which is the best news any parent could hope for their newborn. However, there is one slight issue: None of this big baby's new clothes fit him.
In fact, he's only days old and he's already wearing clothes that were designed for a six-month-old.
"We [can already see] playing football as a lineman for Clemson and the Green Bay Packers," Keisler joked.
Very funny, Dad! And congratulations to the happy parents on their big blessing.
