WW Book Club: The Best New Books July 3 – 9, From False Identities to Second Chances

It’s Fourth of July weekend, which means BBQs with friends, lots of red, white, and blue paraphernalia, fireworks, and dogs cowering under couches because they’re scared of the fireworks. Amidst all the revelry, make sure you take some time to curl up alone with a good book. You’ll need a break after all that noisy celebration.

This week’s Woman’s World recommendations include a murder mystery beginning at a Mad Hatter tea party, a lighthearted rom-com, a story of false identity and justice seeking, and an emotional tale of second chances set in Cape Cod. If none of these float your boat, check out last week’s book club picks.

A Fatal Booking by Victoria Gilbert

This quirky-fun whodunit begins when Chapters Bed and Breakfast owner Charlotte Reed welcomes a group of guests for a book club retreat focused on fairy tales. As a book lover herself, she’s delighted…until one of the guests is poisoned at the Mad Hatter tea party. With a list of suspects, Charlotte enlists her neighbor Ellen, a former spy, to help her gather all the clues — and close the book on the killer!

Fake It Till You Bake It by Jamie Wesley

Filled with swoon-worthy moments and charmingly fun characters, this rom-com stars Jada Townsend-Matthews, who seeks refuge in her hometown after publicly turning down a dating show proposal. She gets a job at a San Diego bakery called Sugar Blitz, owned by Donovan Dell. A reporter mistakenly says Jada and Donovan are a couple, and they go along with it at first, but soon it’s the real sparks that are the icing on the cupcake.

The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark

Engaging, suspenseful, and eerie, this pulse-pounding story follows con artist Meg Williams — also known as Maggie Littleton or Melody Wilde, depending on the town she’s in or the job she has. Ten years after she upended Kat Roberts’ life, Meg returns, and Kat vows to expose her. But as they grow closer, Kat realizes her assumptions might not be true — and they may actually be on the same quest for justice.

Out of the Clear Blue Sky by Kristan Higgins

Bestselling author Kristan Higgins is known for her warm, heartfelt novels, and her new book — set on idyllic Cape Cod — follows suit. Lillie Silva’s only child leaves for college at the same time that her husband leaves her for another woman. As her world crashes down, Lillie unexpectedly forms new bonds with a man named Ben Hallowell, her sister, and her ex’s niece, Ophelia. An emotional, funny tale of second chances.
