Two years after giving birth to her son, Alysha Frigo thought she'd be back to her pre-pregnancy weight. Instead, she was 30kgs (66 pounds) heavier and struggling to lose it.
"To still be carrying an extra 30 kilos is really hard. I think your time is very scarce, and when you do have time, it’s not spent on you," the 36-year-old told Karl Stefanovic on Channel Nine’s This Time Next Year.
"I really want to change my body and my life."
And with that, Frigo set an incredible goal. Not only would she drop the extra weight, the Aussie mom pledged to compete in a bodybuilding competition.
Giving herself 12 months to complete the challenge, Frigo set a detailed regime: weight training four times a week and two cardio sessions a week. She planned to increase the cardio as the competition drew closer.
The mom-of-one admitted she was time-poor but was committed to making it work.
"I’ll just have to find a few hours, taking him [her son] in the pram, going for a walk when he’s sleeping. Get up a bit earlier. Just make the time," she said.
Fast-forward 12 months and Frigo returned to the show for her big reveal.
After all the hard work and dedication, Frigo lost over 30 kilos and feels strong and healthy. Not to mention, she looks absolutely amazing!

"It’s a work in progress. This is my first competition, and I’ll compete all the way through probably until July," she said.
"I know that I’m being judged by everybody that will see it — but it’s about me being the best 36-year-old, post-pregnancy Alysha that I can be," she said.

How did she do it?
Following a dedicated workout plan was just one of the components that aided Frigo's weight loss. Diet was also important.
"Before I started it all, I was eating a lot of carbs and processed foods. I love breads and pastas and while it's fine in moderation, I was eating way too much," Frigo told the Daily Mail Australia.
"My trainer put me on a diet plan, which consisted of six to seven meals per day, non-processed carbs, lean proteins, veggies and fruit."
Frigo's go-to breakfast was rice flakes with blueberries and apples, and an egg white separately or in a protein pancake. For lunch, she teamed lean meat (like tuna, chicken or beef) with carbs (like sweet potato or rice) and salad. For dinner, she served up lean meat with veggies. In between meals, she snacked on fruit, tuna, or a protein shake.
"It was really easy to do once I prepared for it because I was so motivated; I had this inner fire," she said.
Since filming, Frigo has competed in her first bodybuilding competition. Get it, girl!
