You and your beloved cat share so many things: Long, leisurely naps, an affinity for all-day snacking, and (admit it) a secret love of binging on Hallmark movies every Sunday. But have you ever wished you and your cat could share matching manicures?
Several months ago, Twitter user Cristi Hanzel posted a photo on Twitter of her and her kitty's freshly painted nails. But don't worry — she didn't paint her pet's nails herself. Instead, Hanzel applied colored caps to her kitty's claws. Initially designed to keep a cat from clawing up the drapes or the sofa, cat claw caps have become quite popular — so popular, in fact, that they now come in several beautiful manicure-like designs.
While claw caps are mildly controversial, many experts recommend getting the protective nail caps as an alternative to declawing.
“The caps are great for young, active kittens like Pumpkin,” Marsha Rana Wayman of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region told ASPCA.org. “Having claws (and using them) is natural for curious, growing kittens. The caps enable them to do what they do without the negatives, such as damaging furniture or scratching excitable children.”
