It’s been just over one year since Celine Dion lost her beloved husband René Angélil to throat cancer, but the 48-year-old powerhouse singer remains strong as ever.
Stepping out in a stunning emerald green dress at the Grammy’s on February 12, she told Nancy O’Dell of Entertainment Tonight that it’s been a difficult year for her and her three sons via Angélil, but that the family is doing “really well.”
“There’s days when I feel that it’s been three years, and there’s days that I feel it’s not happening,” Dion said. “He’s always with me, and I know that he’s very proud that we’re back in the industry.”
In the wake of her loss, Dion has been pursuing her music career. On the heels of completing her French album last year, Dion is currently working on an English album while continuing her Las Vegas residency and going back on tour.
Angélil, who was Dion’s manager for 21 years, passed away on January 14, 2016 at the age of 73. As a testament to the couple’s love, the funeral was held where they married in 1994 -- Notre Dame Basilica in Quebec, Canada.
Although the singer did not perform at the 2017 Grammy’s, she was proud to present the award for Song of the Year. Before handing the golden megaphone off to Adele for her breakout single “Hello,” Dion opened with a moving tribute to her late sweetheart.
“I will never forget sitting with my husband Rene when ‘My Heart Will Go On’ won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year eighteen years ago,” Celine said. “So tonight, let’s us see, which of these memorable songs wins this unforgettable honor.”
We're so happy for you, Celine!
