Cher Says Being an ‘Immature’ Person Keeps Her Young at 72

We’re dying to know Cher’s aging secrets — and we’d bet we’re not the only ones. The 72-year-old hasn’t seemed to slow down one bit after more than five decades in the spotlight. In fact, the singer recently starred in Mamma Mia 2 and is still performing at stadiums all across the country. Seriously, how does she do it?

“I am very immature as a person, maybe that helps,” she told Heat in an interivew. I’m not dumb, but I still don’t think of myself as a grown-up,” she said. “Even though me and my girlfriends have responsibilities, I don’t see any of us as grown-ups, but more like older teenagers. I think having fun keeps your soul young.”

Of course, it takes more than the power of positive thinking to have the body Cher does. It’s not surprising then that Cher says she works out — a lot. “I work so hard every day, harder now than ever. I’ve been working out forever.” The holiday season is usually the time of year we don’t beat ourselves up to much about not working out, but Cher’s stunning physique at 72 is all the inspiration we need to start sweating.

During a September 2018 episode of The Ellen Show, Cher sat down and explained her workout routine, crediting “old-fashioned” exercises for her toned frame. “You get down on all fours and you put your leg up and you make an L with your leg and you do it up like that,” she explained to host Ellen Degeneres. She’s also known to be able to hold a plank for five minutes, so we assume her core muscles are made of steel.

It’s nice to know that despite having access to all the best trainers in the world and the most expensive fitness equipment, Cher’s trick for turning back the clock is still attainable for us regular folks.
