We all need a good laugh now and then — and what better way to get it than from a bunch of wild but very silly animals? To help us take a moment to forget our troubles and tickle our funny bones, the Comedy Wildlife Awards have released their finalists for this year’s competition. The pics were submitted by photographers who were quick enough to snap the most amusing animal moments out in the wild.
“Each year we do this competition, it gets more and more exciting to see how people visualize the funny sides of wildlife in the wild,” co-founder Paul Joynson-Hicks said in a press release. “And each year we see a wider variety of species doing funny things.”
While it is light-hearted, the organization also hopes to highlight nature conservation so we can continue seeing more hilarious animal moments in the future. Here are a few tips they shared that can help us all become “conservationists at home.”
Shop Responsibly: Yup, this is super easy for everyone to do. For example, don’t buy products which have palm oil, because the palm oil plantations are destroying rainforests. Try and avoid un-recyclable products and one-use plastics/packaging.
Restrict Water Usage: OK, this is the thing, each time you flush the toilet, we send approximately 20 liters of water down the drain — seriously, it’s crazy. So, try and take shorter showers, always turn the faucet off when you brush your teeth, and stop flushing every single time. This would save billions of liters of fresh water that could support our environment as well as supply homes and food for a global plethora of wildlife.
Become a “Wild Influencer”: This is a special person who may be not a mega activist, but really, really cares about the environment and wants to do something to help. For more ideas, check out the Comedy Wildlife Awards website.
The photographers who snapped the pics shown below are in the running for the top prize of a one-week safari in Kenya, but they’re all already winners in our hearts. The organization will announce official winners on their website on November 13, 2019, after a panel of comedy and wildlife experts judges make their decision. In the meantime, you can get your hands the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards Vol. 3 ($12.28, Amazon) book to share the laughs with your family.
Take a look to see the silliest animals that will put a smile on your face!
