It's not every day that a big lottery win warms our hearts. But a recent $1 million prize just fell into the hands of two people who truly couldn't deserve it more.
Bill Pendergast and his family had lost virtually everything after a wildfire blazed through the family's home in Canada back in 2016. With the house and all the belongings within totally destroyed, the family struggled to rebuild it all in the aftermath.
But while Bill was on a trip to see his sick father in Newfoundland, he happened to pick up a lottery ticket while buying a soda for his dad. He could hardly believe his eyes when he saw just how much money he had won. He then called his wife, Carrie, who immediately hopped on a plane to be with him. The couple knew instantly that this new money would give them all a much-needed helping hand.
"In the wildfire, May 2016, we had a total and complete loss, so this puts us one step closer to getting that all finished," Bill said. "Our rebuild should be finished in the next two to four months, so this is going to go a long way towards that."
Not only will the family finally be able to finish rebuilding their home, they will also be able to enjoy a nice, relaxing vacation with their five sons. Bill also has the opportunity to think about retiring earlier than he expected. But first things first: The couple is focused on getting their house back to normal at the moment — though that doesn't mean that they aren't having a little fun in the meantime.
"It's pretty awesome looking at the bank account with all those zeros," Bill said.
Hard to argue with that!
