Debra Messing’s Secret to Flawless Hair Is Rarely Washing It

If you’re tired and desperately need an excuse not to wash your mane, Debra Messing’s hair is all the proof you need to skip a shower. The Will & Grace star, who’s instantly recognizable thanks to her fiery red curls, let her fans in on a beauty secret the actress credits for her long, luscious locks

“I don’t wash my hair every day,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle. “I probably wash it every third day!” The question of how often should you wash your hair is a tricky one, and the answer depends on a lot of factors. Hair color, length, and texture (as well as your lifestyle choices) determine how frequently you need to go in with shampoo and conditioner. However, in most cases you shouldn’t be washing your hair every day, as this can strip your strands of moisture and lead to brittle ends.

And speaking of dead ends, another beauty tip Messing recommends is to go easy with the heated styling tools. “I’m vigilant about keeping it in good health, so I use an ampoule every time I wash my hair,” Messing said in a different interview with Hollywood Life. “I use an ampoule that is a deep, deep, deep conditioner. And then, I use another leave-in conditioner, and then I use another spray leave-in conditioner.” We recommend the IMONPRO Professional Losing Control Hair Ampoule ($18.81, Amazon), which not only protects and strengthens your hair but also works to fight hair loss

For years Messing has inspired us with her fierce red hair color (Debra Messing’s natural hair color is actually brown), but the actress wasn’t always so confident. Her curly, textured hair “really made me stand out and as a teenager, that’s the last thing you want — to stand out,” she told Hollywood Life. “So, it’s been a journey for me to now be in a place where I absolutely love my hair.”
