Diane Lane Hates the Word ‘Anti-Aging’ But Loves These Skincare Products

It’s hard not to wonder about Diane Lane’s skincare routine when you consider that the 53-year-old could pass for a woman 20 years younger. But despite the attention her ageless appearance has generated, Lane says she hates the word “anti-aging.” That said, the actress admits that her flawless face has helped her land roles, and so she’s discovered a few skincare favorites along the way.

“I don’t use the ‘A’ word, as in anti-aging,” Lane tells the New York Times. “I just remove myself from those associations. I’m so fed up with the marketing of fear.” As a result, Lane has a pretty pared-down skincare routine. In the mornings, she spritzes her face with Arcona’s Lavender Hydrasol ($59.99, Amazon) and lets her skin’s natural oils moisturize her face.

At night, Lane sticks with the Arcona brand, opting for the Toner Tea Bar ($42, Amazon).”I love the idea of using bars of soap instead of plastic bottles,” she muses. “How many more bottles of plastic do we put in the ocean?”

Lane switches up her nighttime skincare regimen sometimes by using the Amla Purifying Cleanser by Tracie Martyn ($65, Amazon) with her Foreo ($49, Amazon), which is a soft silicone face brush that’s gentle on the skin but still removes dirt and makeup. “I love the Foreo because instead of a scratchy brush, you vibrate the city grime out. I wish I knew to be gentle with my epidermis when I was 20 and had oily skin,” she says.

As for her nighttime moisturizer, Lane likes the Bella Rosa Calming Skin Cream by Verabella ($88, Verabella). “When you’re having your face touched all dang day long for work, [the rose cream] is wonderful.” She’s also a fan of Verabella’s Cucumber Aloe Moisture Screen SPF 45+ ($48, Verabella).

Some other random skin-care favorites that Lane revealed to the Times are Spa Technologies Regenerative Oil ($60, Amazon), which is chock-full of antioxidants that stimulate circulation and repair sun-damaged skin, as well as Éminence’s Stone Crop Serum ($38, Amazon), which not only moisturizes dry skin but also lightens and evens skin complexion.

Of course, having a beautiful canvas to start with certainly helps. To ensure that her she’s not sabotaging her skin, Lane likes to spend her days without makeup. “I really enjoy loving my naked face, because if I fall more in love with the mask, that’s depressing,” she explains. “I want to see me and not feel like I have to apologize by making changes.”

And that, ladies, could be the most valuable secret to Diane Lane’s skincare routine: loving the real you first.
