Spoil Your Pup With Dog-Friendly Ice Cream at PetSmart This Weekend

PetSmart

I scream, you scream, dogs scream for ice cream — dog-safe ice cream, that is. PetSmart is celebrating National Ice Cream Day (July 15) all weekend long on both July 14 and 15 by offering free, doggo-friendly ice cream at its PetSmart PetsHotel locations all across North America. We can see the tails wagging already!

On both days, dog owners can stop by anytime at these select locations to receive a four-ounce serving of pup ice cream. If you aren't sure whether your local PetSmart has the PetsHotel facilities, visit the PetSmart store locator, click the checkmark option of "PetsHotel," and search for the nearest one to you with this special accommodation.

As you may know, PetsHotel is a comfy lodging environment for pets to stay while their owners are away, complete with round-the-clock care from the staff. It's truly "sweet" that PetSmart want to offer nice cold puppy treats on two hot days, even if the doggos are not staying there as guests. But if you don't have a PetSmart PetsHotel close to you or if you're unable to make it in on either day, PetSmart is also sharing some delicious dog ice cream recipes that you can make right at home for your pup, no matter where you live.

Dog Ice Cream Recipes

Important note: Spoil your dog in moderation, says Nick Saint-Erne, DVM, PetSmart’s resident veterinarian. Don't serve these dog ice cream recipes to pups who are allergic to any of the listed ingredients, or those who need to be on low-fat diets. Be sure that none of the ingredients that you use contain xylitol, a sweetener which is toxic to our furry friends. If you aren't sure about the best serving size for your dog, ask your vet. As a general rule, treats should be no more than 10 percent of a pet's daily diet.
