Everyone's talking about Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin, and it's all because of the heartwarming and hilarious way the former 9 to 5 co-stars stole the show at the 2017 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.
The country legend had the honor of introducing Tomlin's big win of the night--the SAG Life Achievement Award. And it was the most Dolly Parton introduction you could ever imagine.
"I almost didn’t get in," Parton said after she took the stage. "They were holding me backstage, kept wanting to see my IDs. At least I think that’s what he asked to see. It was something with IDs, maybe double D’s. Well, I’m glad to get that off my chest."
The boob-of-the-joke didn't stop with that.
She continued, "I might say Lily is getting an award for something I've spent my whole life trying to avoid, a SAG award. I see something sagging, I'm calling Dr. Markowitz, to get that nipped, tucked, and stuffed right away."
Jokes aside, she then paid tribute to Tomlin's extensive and marvelous work over the years--proving that her friend was more than deserving of this wonderful accolade.
Shortly thereafter, Tomlin herself took the stage to give an equally funny and inspiring acceptance speech of her own.
"Don't be anxious when you miss an opportunity. Behind every failure is an opportunity someone wishes they had missed," she said. "Mind what [Henry David] Thoreau said, ‘Beware of any enterprise that requires new clothing.’ Doesn't that ring sort of true tonight to a few of you? It does to me."
These ladies were the best part of the night--without question!
