After a severe reaction to her medication, Camille Jamerson set out to find a natural way to reduce her high blood pressure. She never imagined just how much success a natural sip could deliver!
One morning in 2019, Camille Jamerson woke to find that her face felt numb on one side. When the numbness started to spread to her mouth, she called her doctor in a panic, who told her to take Benadryl and get to the ER. There, it was determined the Southfield, Michigan, 53-year-old was having an allergic reaction to her blood pressure medication, lisinopril. “It’s a good thing you got here when you did. Another 5 minutes and your throat would have closed,” the doctor told her. Frightened after the incident, Camille did some research and learned lisinopril can cause allergic reactions, particularly in African-American women.
When her doctor had prescribed the medication, Camille was open to it. Her blood pressure had hit an alarming and dangerous 160 over 110, which had caused extreme fatigue and painful headaches.
But now, she was too afraid to take any prescription medication. “If you don’t get your blood pressure under control, you could have a stroke,” her doctor warned. So Camille set out on a mission to find another way to lower her blood pressure. As she began doing online research, Camille found several articles about how tart cherry and beet juices had been proven to help lower blood pressure. Both, she read, contain phenolic acid, a naturally occurring antioxidant that improves the health of the cells that line blood vessels.
Though not convinced it would help, Camille figured, It couldn’t hurt to try.
A Sweet Solution
Camille purchased some tart cherry juice at her local grocery store and began drinking a couple of shot glasses each morning, continuing to monitor her pressure. To her joy and amazement, within the first two weeks, her blood pressure started to lower. She drank an 8-ounce glass every other day, and her pressure continued to fall. Within about a month, her blood pressure had dropped to about 129 over 80, which, though still a bit above ideal, her doctor told her is considered “managed.”
Today, Camille continues to follow her tart cherry and beet juice regimen and her blood pressure remains controlled. The headaches have also gone away and her energy has returned. Another plus: Her insurance policy attributes points to different medical conditions, including high blood pressure, and the points equal dollars added to her premium. If her blood pressure stayed high, she’d be assessed points adding up to $800 a month. “I couldn’t be happier!” she cheers. “I don’t have to take prescription meds, I’m saving money, and best of all, I’m healthier. This juice saved my life!”
