Oklahoma mom Alyssa Hacker was at Target with her young son Owen, having a good old time walking through the toy section. Then, her little boy grabbed three dinosaurs off the shelf, trying to figure out which one he wanted to take home with him.
Meanwhile, an older gentleman passed them by, and Owen said, "Hi!" The man turned around and said, "Hey, sweet boy," and began making friendly talk with Owen, even playing with some of the dinosaurs with him. At first, Alyssa was feeling pretty hesitant about this older stranger being so close to her youngster, especially considering "this crazy world we live in," as she put it. But soon after, she realized that the man had tears in his eyes.
In a viral Facebook post, Alyssa explained, "The man got his wallet out and pulled a $20 out, he put it in Owens pocket on his shirt, and said, 'I just lost my 2-year-old grandson last week. You take this money and buy this boy all three dinosaurs.'"
Then, the older man wiped his tears, rubbed Owen's back, and walked away.
Wow! It's no wonder that this powerful moment made Alyssa cry right there in the middle of Target. And it's no surprise that this poignant memory has now been liked on Facebook 173,000 times in just a matter of a few days. Who knew that a heart-wrenching personal tragedy could inspire such a selfless good deed from this man they never met before in their lives?
As she put it so perfectly in her Facebook post: "There is still some good in this world."
Amen to that!
