Supermodel Elle Macpherson Reveals How She Keeps Her Hair Glossy and Damage-Free at 54

As a supermodel in the 1980s, Elle Macpherson’s impressive physique graced the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition a record-breaking five times, earning her the nickname of “The Body.” Today, the 54-year-old beauty remains just as dedicated to keeping herself fit and healthy from head to toe — including her luscious blonde locks.

While penning a blog post for Get the Gloss on October 3, 2018, Macpherson shared how she makes sure her hair stays shiny and glossy over the years. As an avid swimmer, the Australian model could have easily fallen victim to the harsh chemicals in pools that dry out strands. Luckily, she came up with a genius solution that not only protects her hair from that potential damage, but also gives it a nourishing boost while she exercises.

“I fill my swimming cap with [conditioner] while doing my laps,” Macpherson explained, “or in summer I like to walk around with my hair coated with it. It’s a nice wet-look style!” She uses a product from the company she co-founded: WelleCo Organic Rose Geranium Crème ($45). You can likely get similar benefits with your favorite conditioner or cream. You can also substitute a shower cap for the swimming cap if you don’t find yourself doing laps in a pool as often as Macpherson — or maybe even grab some plastic wrap from your kitchen.

In the post, Macpherson continued to explain that when she’s not splashing around in water, she uses a cowboy hat to shield her hair from the sun’s rays. Simple tips like these can make all the difference in keeping our strands strong enough to withstand whatever elements the weather (and the passage of time) tries to throw at us. It can be easy to let these methods slip our mind in our day-to-day life, so it’s always nice to have helpful reminders pop up.

Another great tip from Macpherson: Find a stylist you can trust and stick with them. “A good cut and color can change everything and that’s why I look to my hair specialist, Josh Wood, for advice,” she writes. “I trust him implicitly to keep my hair in great condition and with color that flatters my skin tone and lifestyle.” If you have a stylist you trust just as much, count yourself as lucky as the supermodel.
