Céline Dion Celebrates Her Mother’s Birthday With a Heartwarming Duet

She got it from her mama! Céline Dion may be known as the singer in her family, but her mother, Thérèse Tanguay Dion, must have some serious chops as well. In honor of Thérèse’s 91st birthday, the two performed a mother-daughter duet — but we kind of wish Céline had shared a video instead of a still photo.

“Happy Birthday, Mom! You are an infinite source of comfort and inspiration. I love you, Céline xx,” the 49-year-old wrote in both English and French alongside the sweet photo on Instagram.

Thérèse has always supported her youngest daughter. In fact, she’s the one that jump-started her career. “The entire family shared the same passion: music. The parents and children even formed a group that performed concerts in the area. From her earliest childhood, Céline would join in,” the singer’s website explained. “Thérèse swiftly noted her baby’s remarkable talent. All of her children were gifted, but Céline was exceptionally so.” The “My Heart Will Go On” singer is the youngest of her mother’s 14 children.

With the help of her mother and brother Jacque, the budding talent wrote her first song — “Ce n’était qu’un rêve” — at age 12. It was also Thérèse who chose Céline’s late husband, René Angélil, to be her daughter’s manager. “Thérèse sent a cassette of the song to impresario René Angélil. She chose him because he had managed the career of the family’s idol, Québécois singer Ginette Reno,” the website continued.

With her parent’s birthdays just 18 days apart, Céline had previously celebrated her late father on March 2. “Papa, you would have been 95 years old today. I think of you and I love you — Céline xx,” she wrote on Instagram. Adhémar-Charles Dion passed away in 2003.
