Cher Talks Plastic Surgery and How She Really Feels About Getting Old
Cher’s career has spanned decades, with her music reaching millions across the globe. She has been a fixture in our lives since the 1960s, but with her youthful energy and ability to seemingly not age, it’s still hard to imagine that she is 74 years old.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, the Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy-winning artist revealed that despite her cool attitude, she has felt pressure to look and stay young in the entertainment business. However, she has used her passion for performing to work through those pressures and find her inner peace.
The style icon is considered by many to be the poster girl for normalizing plastic surgery. We appreciate how she has never been afraid to talk about getting work done, but in this interview she jokingly shrugged that off and got into how the culture around cosmetic procedures has changed. “These girls are having surgery at 18. So come on!” she said. “I’ve never seen girls do so much to want to change everything they look like. I never wanted to do that.”
If there’s one thing that Cher doesn’t shy away from, it’s admitting that she isn’t a fan of the aging process. “Any woman who is honest will say it’s not as much fun,” she quipped.
Getting older has affected her energy levels and her shows definitely take more out of her these days. “When I was working on the road we used to work two shows a night and then go out dancing all night long,” she said. “It’s like now we’ve got to rest because you’ve got another night.”
However, when she’s on stage, Cher never fails to deliver a high-level performance. In fact, she believes that her voice is better than it’s ever been. “You don’t pay bucks to stand and look at someone. They’ve got to deliver something,” she said. “And I’ve worked my whole life to keep my strength in my body. There are 20-year-old girls who can’t do what I do.”
When asked about what keeps her going Cher keeps her answer quite simple. “Making people happy,” she said. “It sounds corny, but I mean it. I love being able to take an audience and move them to a different place.”
With few wrinkles in sight and a continuous drive to perform, it’s clear that the “Goddess of Pop” has no plans to slow down and will keep reinventing herself like she’s done for decades!
