It’s fair to say that Dolly Parton is universally beloved by people of all ages, including children. So it may come as a surprise to many fans and followers that the 71-year-old country star has never had any kids of her own. But as it turns out, the legendary singer is totally fine with that.
“God has a plan for everything,” she said in a new interview with Today. “I think it probably was His plan for me not to have kids so everybody’s kids could be mine. And they are now.”
Parton definitely recognizes that the kids all love her, so it’s no shock that she’s recently released a children’s album, “I Believe In You” for the little ones to enjoy.
“I have that high-pitched voice … I look like Mother Goose or one of those over-exaggerated characters, and kids just relate to that,” she said.
Parton said in a previous interview with Billboard that she used to think she should regret not ever having children. She said when she and her husband Carl Dean first started dating, they just assumed that they would have kids someday and even had names picked out for them if they did.
The lovebirds never filled their nest, but their family is still full of siblings, nieces, nephews, and lots of love between them all. And they clearly have no regrets.
She said, “Now that Carl and I are older, we often say, ‘Aren’t you glad we didn’t have kids? Now we don’t have kids to worry about.'”
Now Parton can enjoy bringing the love of music to her tiniest fans. And judging on the success of her work with her children’s Imagination Library, we have not a doubt in our minds that they’ll love this album, too!
