You’ll Never Guess Dolly Parton’s Go-To Gas Station Snack

Tags:

Despite all her fame, Dolly Parton has remained as down-to-earth as she was growing up in the hills of Tennessee. Yet we have to admit we were still surprised by what she has revealed as her favorite snack to grab on the road.

The country music queen prefers traveling on a tour bus rather than zipping around in a jet or airplane, which means frequent gas station pit stops along the way. As anyone who’s ever been inside one of these knows, the selection includes a wide array of what can only be described as, well, junk food. So what does Parton pick up? “Potted meat. Or weird things like Vienna sausage,” she told the New York Times

As much as some of us might turn our noses up at the idea of eating meat from a can, it’s not the first time Parton has divulged a preference for less-than-fine dining. In a separate NYT interview from 1992, she explained, “I don’t like pretty food. The way I see it, if the food’s too pretty, it ain’t too good.” Whether you’re a fan of potted meat or not, there’s one thing we can all agree on: it sure isn’t pretty. “I can’t help it. The greasier the food, the better.”

Even “date nights” with her husband, Carl, rarely include trips to a fancy restaurant. “We do different things, like go to the Taco Bell drive-thru,” she said in an interview with Andy Cohen, “Carl and I have a little camper, a little RV, and we’re always driving through fast food restaurants to get our stuff.”

If you’re starting to have concerns about Parton’s diet or nutrition, don’t worry. She also packs plenty of homemade meals for the bus that she keeps in a freezer to thaw out later. Maybe that includes a batch of her chicken and dumplin’s, or perhaps some of her mama’s banana pudding. Plus, there’s no denying she knows how to stay in amazing shape no matter what she eats.

Heck, even if potted meat was on the table, we’d share a meal with this legendary lady any day!
