In just two weeks, General Hospital will mark the 55th anniversary of its premiere episode, and the soap has released an epic promo video of all the drama from the past five decades to get fans psyched for all the drama to come. The video kicks off with Sonny proposing a toast “to family” with Carly and Jason after his friend’s miraculous return from the dead, and then we’re treated to a montage of memorable moments from GH’s incredible television legacy.
We see classic images of Steve Hardy, Jessie Brewer, and Audrey Hardy, Luke and Laura’s unforgettable wedding (complete with Liz Taylor’s Helena Cassadine cursing the couple for eternity) and the heartbreaking death of B.J. Jones. There’s also recent footage of some of GH’s hottest couples, the Nurses Ball, and dramatic moments like Julian shooting Alexis, Carly slapping Nelle, and Ava trying to burn herself, Sonny, and Carly alive. And don’t forget about the current Jason/Sam/Drew triangle that is threatening to explode.
ABC executive Nathan Varni was thrilled to finally be able to share this promo with fans online. “This was a reel put together by our talented ABC marketing folks and shown to critics at this year’s Television Critics Association to celebrate #GH55,” he tweeted. “I’m so excited that we are now able to share it with everyone! And don’t forget to tune into our very special GH 55th anniversary episode on March 30!”
That’s right — mark your calendars. While the soap technically premiered on April 1, 1963, that day falls on a Sunday this year, so they’re airing the special anniversary show on Friday, March 30. You don’t want to miss it (or any of the thrilling episodes leading up to it).
