It’s hard to believe that Hershey’s has been making chocolate for 100 years — a whole century — but it makes sense that the candy company wants to celebrate with something sweet. Enter Hershey’s Gold, the first new flavor released by Hershey’s in 20 years.
Interestingly enough, Hershey’s Gold isn’t made with any chocolate. Instead, the base of the bar is a caramelized crème, and it’s filled with pretzels and peanuts.
“We use a proprietary cooking process to transform the white creme into a golden bar by caramelizing the creme, which helps maintain a sweet, creamy taste,” said Melinda Lewis, senior director and general manager of the Hershey’s Franchise at The Hershey Company.
Along with celebrating Hershey’s long (and delicious) legacy, it’s also a nod to Hershey’s official partnership with United States Olympic Committee — it’ll be released 100 days before the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang officially kick off.
Sounds fascinating! Clearly, this is quite a difference from the classic Hershey’s milk chocolate we’re used to when we make s’mores around the campfire, or the Hershey’s Special Dark bar we munch on when we’re in the mood for something bittersweet and just a little intense.
But as you might remember from 1995, the white chocolate Cookies n’ Creme bar’s release was another huge leap from the typical flavor we think of when we hear the iconic name Hershey’s. And we’d be hard-pressed to complain about the creamy deliciousness found in that candy — the last “new” flavor the company released.
Hershey’s Gold officially hits stores December 1. We don’t know about you, but we’re hoping to be first in line to get a taste!
