A Letter Meghan Markle Wrote as a Child Proves Her Kindness Is 100-Percent Genuine

Meghan Markle may be in the midst of intense duchess lessons, but she’s had the royal grace all along. An unearthed letter Meghan wrote in 1993 while attending Immaculate Heart High School in California to a classmate who was, according to her former teachers, “very shy” and “a bit of a loner” proves Meghan’s sincerity and kindness started from a young age.

The Duchess of Sussex’s former instructor, Christine Knudsen, said she received the letter from one of the student’s in Meghan’s peer group, according to the new documentary How to Bag a Prince that aired on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom.

“Meghan wrote her the most wonderful loving note,” Knudsen said. “Even though Meghan was not her close friend at all. It just shows the depth of [Meghan’s] heart.”

Written in perfect, flowing handwriting, the letter reads: “Dear Michelle, You are so strong and so wonderful — your courage in strength in times of hardships is as admirable as your optimism and friendly nature. I am so lucky to have you in my group and to be able to lead you on this adventure. Never stop sharing your beautiful spirit and always remember how special you are. I am here if you ever need me. I love you, Meghan.”

According to Meghan’s religious studies teacher, Maria Pollia, Meghan had compassion for not just her school peers, but others in their community in need and once asked how she could help the city’s homeless population. Pollia told the show’s producer’s, “One day, after class, Meghan approached me and said, ‘So tell me more about serving on Skid Row.’ And so I suggested she continued to volunteer at this soup kitchen in her senior year. Meghan always took it a step further, not just distributing food but learning people’s names, learning their stories.”

Long before becoming a royal, Meghan had a philanthropic focus. She worked as a Global Ambassador for World Vision, supported World Vision’s Clean Water Campagin in 2016, worked with the Myna Mahila Foundation, was a One Young World Counsellor, and served as a United Nations advocate, to list just a few of her charitable achievements.

It should come as no surprise that Meghan saw a fellow female student in need and reached out to show her support. From a young age, Meghan showed her feminist streak. At 11 years old, she saw a sexist advertisement on TV and wrote letters to Hillary Clinton, Linda Ellerbee, Gloria Allred, and the company responsible for the ad. Meghan received replies from all three women, and the soap company changed the wording in the commercial.
