Resurfaced Video of Kate Middleton’s College Graduation Is a Sweet Reminder of Royal Family’s Love for Her

As many royal fans know, Prince William first met his now-wife Kate Middleton while the pair both attended St. Andrews University in Scotland. Kate earned her degree in art history while William studied geography. Whether by luck or perhaps some royal intervention, both of those majors happened to share a venue for their graduation ceremony in 2005.
Of course, William’s royal family was in attendance — including Queen Elizabeth. According to a first-hand report on HelloGiggles from Toria Sheffield, who was there to watch her sister graduate, that meant following the royal custom of having Elizabeth’s presence formally announced and waiting for her to sit down before anyone else could take their own seat. Although there was also a large gap between the times Kate and William’s names were called on stage, a recently resurfaced video helpfully edited the two moments closer together.
The best part isn’t actually watching as William and Kate accept their degrees, but seeing the adorable look on Prince Charles’ face after his future daughter-in-law finished her walk. Take a look below:
You can even see the queen glance over at Charles as if she knew he’d be beaming with pride for the woman who captured his son’s heart. It’s also interesting to note that William was called “William Wales” by the man reading out names — his full name is actually William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor, but apart from being a mouthful, the young prince decided to go by a less obviously royal name while attending the school. He reportedly also used the first name “Steve” instead of William to avoid being instantly recognized.
Eagle-eyed fans will probably notice that Prince Harry wasn’t seated alongside his family. We aren’t sure why he didn’t show up for his big brother’s big day, but we’re sure he was likely focused on his own academics or budding military career at the time. Regardless, it’s always delightful to see these little moments of affection between members the royal family.
