Prince George Has an Old-School Nickname for His Dad

Tags:

Kate Middleton recently let slip Prince George‘s nickname for Prince William, his dad, and we can’t stop chuckling at how cute it is. The rest of the world may know him as “His Royal Highness” or the Duke of Cambridge — but to Prince George, there’s no need for fancy titles.

The Duchess of Cambridge was attending an event in the English city of Leicester to mark the passing of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the chairman of the city’s soccer team, when she revealed the family secret. “Kate said that William was playing [soccer] with the children last night and one of them said, I think it was George, ‘Are you playing football tomorrow, Pops?'” season ticket holder Fiona Sturgess told reporters.

Imagining little George saying “Pops” in a British accent is downright adorable — as is the mental image of Prince George and Prince William playing a little game of soccer. (We hope Prince William let his son score a few goals!)

The only thing cuter than Prince George’s nickname for his dad may be the moniker he has for his grandfather, Prince Charles. Apparently, Prince George likes to call his doting grandfather “Grandpa Wales.” As for Queen Elizabeth, she’s “Gan-Gan” to her grandkids. “She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay, and that just shows her love for her family,” Kate revealed of her grandmother-in-law in a documentary that aired for the queen’s 90th birthday.

The royal family gets a lot of flak for being too formal, so it’s nice to know that they all really do love each other and get along behind the scenes. We can imagine Princess Charlotte being a total daddy’s girl, so we wonder what nicknames she has for Prince William. That said, it’s bound to be adorable whatever it is!
