Princess Charlotte Copied the Queen’s Wave, Proving She’s Got This Royal Thing Down Pat

Tags:

When Kate Middleton married into the royal family, she went through months of etiquette classes — and the same goes for Meghan and her rigorous duchess lessons. But one royal who hasn’t had any trouble adjusting to her role is Princess Charlotte. (Even if you’re born a royal, you still have to learn your manners!) The adorable tot showed off her waving skills at this year’s Trooping of the Colour, and she’s already mastered the motion.

The three-year-old watched her great-grandmother wave to the crowd gathered outside Buckingham Palace before giving it a go herself. Her sweet smile as she waves seems to say, “This isn’t so hard. I think I’ve totally got this down!” Charlotte’s attention then quickly shifts to something on the ground before she leans up against the balcony and again looks down with her mouth wide open.

Though Queen Elizabeth didn’t catch her mini-me‘s wave, proud mom Kate Middleton did. The Duchess of Cambridge turns to her husband, Prince William, to tell him about their daughter’s antics before leaning over to tell the queen, too. The 92-year-old monarch then chuckles and she breaks into an ear-to-ear grin. Watch the video below to see part of the heartwarming scene play out.

Queen Elizabeth is usually calm and cool at royal events, smiling politely and shaking hands with everyone. But when it comes to her grandkids and great-grandchildren, she is openly affectionate. “[The queen] always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay, and that just shows her love for the family,” her granddaughter-in-law Kate Middleton revealed during the documentary Our Queen at Ninety. She also reportedly teared up when she met her great-grandson, Prince Louis, for the first time.

It’s unlikely that Charlotte will ever rule the UK — Prince Charles is next in line, then Prince William, and then Prince George — but to us she’s the reigning queen of cute. As Charlotte gets older and appears at more royal events, perhaps we’ll eventually get to see her curtsy. Now wouldn’t that just be the cutest thing ever?
